Jack Lestrade was born in the province of Gascony in Southwestern France. In 1960 he emigrated to the U. S. and was drawn to Carmel by its natural beauty and settled down to devote himself to his art
Lestrade was artistically mentored by the legendary Donald Teague, noted watercolorist, and inspired by yearly trips to France, Spain and Italy. "If the eye makes an artist, then observation is my artistic philosophy - to see and understand where one is, to respect people and places as they are, to try to keep situations free of complications, and to be an honest individual."
Lestrade now makes his home in the South of France.
